Herringbone Kitchen Floor & Kitchen Refit Farnham

Another satisfied customer project was completed just in time for Christmas! We had the pleasure of working with Julia and Paddy from Farnham, a delightful couple who made the project a joy from start to finish. Meeting such warm and enthusiastic clients is one of the best parts of our job, and Julia and Paddy were no exception.

This project was a true team effort, with the skilled AIB A-Team—Alan, Tom, Charley, and Nathan—bringing their expertise to every step of the process. Special thanks also go to Adam, who meticulously handled the plastering; Henry, who ensured the electrics were flawless; and Tom, who expertly managed the gas and central heating. The dedication and skill each member brought to this project were essential to its success.

A Kitchen That Embodies Modern Elegance

Julia and Paddy’s newly revamped kitchen is a stunning blend of modern design and cozy charm, perfectly suited for both everyday use and holiday gatherings. At the heart of this transformation is the herringbone kitchen floor, a timeless and sophisticated feature that immediately draws the eye. The rich, warm tones of the oak wood floor are laid in an intricate herringbone pattern, creating visual interest and depth. This choice not only elevates the overall aesthetic but also provides a durable surface that stands up to the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The Small Details That Make the Design Shine

The cabinetry, finished in a soft, matte sage green, provides a beautiful contrast to the golden hues of the herringbone floor. This color palette strikes a balance between contemporary and classic, giving the kitchen a fresh yet timeless appeal. The cabinets are custom-made, featuring shaker-style doors with brass handles that add a touch of understated luxury. Inside, thoughtful storage solutions make it easy to keep the kitchen organized, with deep drawers for pots and pans and pull-out shelves for pantry items.

The countertops are crafted from quartz in a subtle white with delicate gray veining, creating a pristine surface that’s both elegant and highly functional. This material choice complements the herringbone floor by adding a sleek touch while being resistant to stains and scratches—ideal for a busy family kitchen. Above, a statement backsplash of handmade, white subway tiles arranged in a vertical stack adds texture and a modern twist to a classic element.

To maximize light and space, the kitchen features large windows that flood the room with natural light. This is further enhanced by well-placed recessed lighting, fitted by Henry, whose attention to detail ensured that each light was perfectly aligned. Pendant lights with brass accents hang above the island, tying in beautifully with the cabinet hardware and adding a warm, ambient glow.

The central island is more than just a visual centerpiece; it’s a multifunctional hub that offers additional workspace and seating. It is clad in the same quartz as the countertops, ensuring continuity, and features a built-in wine cooler—an indulgent touch for entertaining. The base of the island is painted in a deeper shade of green to subtly contrast with the surrounding cabinets and add dimension.

The Final Flourishes

No kitchen is complete without the finer details, and in this project, the accessories brought the design to life. Open shelving with oak finishes echoes the herringbone kitchen floor, creating a harmonious flow throughout the space. This shelving provides a perfect spot to display Julia and Paddy’s collection of ceramic dishes and glassware, adding a personal touch.

With Tom’s expertise in gas and central heating, the kitchen stays cozy year-round. The underfloor heating beneath the herringbone floor ensures warmth even on the chilliest of mornings, making the kitchen an inviting space no matter the season.

A Team Effort to Be Proud Of

This project wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of the AIB team and our trusted specialists. Adam’s seamless plastering provided the perfect canvas for this transformation, while Henry’s precise electrical work ensured optimal lighting. Tom’s attention to the gas and central heating kept the space as functional as it is beautiful.

Julia and Paddy’s herringbone kitchen floor now serves as the foundation for countless family memories, festive gatherings, and cozy dinners. This project is a testament to the power of collaboration, quality craftsmanship, and thoughtful design. Another job well done, and just in time for Christmas celebrations!
